LOCAL YOUTHS RECEIVE COLLEGE SAVINGS BONDS AS REGIONAL SPELLING BEE WINNERS!
(Redmond, OR) – The High Desert Education Service District and Horizon Broadcasting Group teamed up for the first annual Central Oregon Regional Spelling Bee and awarded $4,000 in college savings bonds to four divisional winners.
The Regional Spelling Bee was conducted April 9, 2005 at Redmond High School and was broadcast on KQAK-FM, THE PEAK 104.1 and LITE 95.1. Senator Ben Westlund served as judge for the event.
Logan Riemhofer, a third grader at Lava Ridge Elementary in Bend, won the kindergarten through third grade division. Katherine Martin, a fifth grader from Terrebonne Community School, was the 4th through fifth grade division winner. Jordan Rudinsky, a sixth grader from Sisters Middle School, won the sixth through eighth grade division. Brian Stills, a senior at Culver High School, won the ninth through twelfth grade division. Each received a $1,000 college savings bond.
“We’re extremely proud of all of the young people who participated in the spelling bee,” said Marlene Amaral, Spelling Bee Coordinator for the High Desert Education Service District. “We especially appreciate the support of the business community to recognize and reward these students for their outstanding academic accomplishments!”
Unicom, Columbia River Bank and Horizon Broadcasting Group provided the $1,000 College Savings Bonds.
Horizon Broadcasting Group, LLC owns five radio stations. HBG’s stations in Central Oregon include KQAK-FM (105.7, Oldies), KWPK-FM (The PEAK 104.1, Hot AC), KLTW-FM (LITE 95.1, Soft Adult Contemporary), KWLZ-FM (LAZER 96.5, Classic Rock) and KRCO-AM (690 khz, Classic Country).
